Managing weeds in agronomic crops requires an integrated approach using the benefits of cultural, mechanical, and chemical control strategies. Relying on any single tactic can lead to severe problems such as high costs and crop failure. In planning a weed management strategy, keep in mind the available equipment and time, land characteristics, weed spectrum, and yield objective. Management inputs such as herbicides sometimes can be reduced, but alternative approaches must be substituted if the production level is to be maintained.
